I'm a sucker for idea books. Love love love them -- love flipping through them, love seeing them on my bookshelves, love seeing all the gorgeous ideas, love the feeling of inspiration that always fills me after I look at one. I'm guessing that some of you may share this addiction. If so, then today's blog post is going to make you all very happy!
Michele Skinner, an '07 Memory Makers Master, was kind enough to donate a copy of her new book, Your Words, Your Story: Add Meaningful Journaling to Your Layouts to us for a blog giveaway. Michele has a true talent for authentic, honest journaling, and the book is full of great prompts and journaling tips. It's also filled with some gorgeous layouts from a great group of contributors -- all in all, it's something you don't want to miss!
Here's what you have to do to win. Since {writer's notebook} is about journaling, we want to hear YOUR best tips for journaling on your layouts. Maybe it's a prompt that never fails to motivate you, or a technique that you've found to be especially helpful, or an idea for including more journaling on your layouts. Whatever it is, share it with us! We've seen your talent in the galleries and read your stories -- we know you've got great ideas when it comes to journaling, so we want to hear them. Post your journaling tip (and your email address) in the comments section by 12:00 EST on Wednesday, 11/26/08, and we'll choose one random winner to receive a copy of Michele's new book!
Don't forget to check out this week's Book Fair too -- Kathryn has created such a fun holiday kit for us!

I was reading the tips above, and I do alot of these... I have a notebook both a hard paper one and a virtual one... I use "one note" but I will also use "notepad"... i jot down song lyrics, movie quotes, book quotes, snatches of poetry, ad slogans... my daughter keeps a blog and sometimes i will use her writing as the journal piece... and at another daughter's graduation I jotted down parts of the principals speech to use in journaling her grad layouts. I also write down bits of conversation so I dont forget.

My Journaling Tips
1) Write something on a calendar daily.
2) At the end of the month sort your best scrap pics into your scrap folder and journal as u do so. This sparks many memories and makes sure u get much more down then what u can scrap.
3)Start your layouts with the journaling.
4)Write something on every page that the photo does not tell.
5) Carry a small notebook and a pen in your purse so u can write at anytime. I suggest a Moleskin pocket notebook and a Martha Stewart writing pen.
6)If u did not journal on a scrap page at least slip a handwritten note behind the page in your scrap album.
7)List your daily plans in the same notebook everyday. Its so easy to do, helps keep u organized and can serve as a reminder of what life was like before
8) At the end of the day look at your to do list and take note of what you did do and what u didnt. Write down what u did instead.
9) Journal to your loved ones in your native language. Do not worry about online readers if u really want them to know what u said include it in the credits. Most important make it easy for your loved ones to read it.
10)Instill the love for memory keeping in your children. Teach them how to record their thoughts not only for future generations but also so they gain the gift of self-reflection.
Most of all live in the moment and hold onto them longer by capturing them anyway you can. Photos, scrap pages, journaling, blogging and reviewing what you record.

it really helps me to write things down as i think of them. sometimes, i have a sweet thought or moment i want to record and i might forget it when it is time to scrap. also, i sort of realized that i didn't necessarily have to have a photo related to the exact moment or thought that i'm journaling. those were pretty significant tips for me and now, my fave LOs are the ones where i journal the most.
